All flights in and out of Newark Liberty International Airport were halted Saturday morning after an aircraft made an emergency landing.

An Air Transat flight from Montreal to Fort Lauderdale diverted to Newark because of a possible fire in the cargo hold, the Federal Aviation Administration told NBC News.

The plane is currently on the ground and passengers were evacuated via air slide.

Departing flights are being delayed by a least a 45 minutes, and arriving flights are delayed by at least one hour.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Air Transat were not immediately available for comment.fly
