The Golden State Warriors are privately financing a new, $1.4 billion arena that the NBA team will move into next year. Sinclair Broadcast Group just bought 21 regional sports networks and Fox College Sports network from Walt Disney for $9.6 billion.

While the price tags for the arena and networks are accurate, they don’t paint the complete picture. The Warriors received a favorable tax ruling that will save the team’s owners a pile of dough. And Sinclair’s “effective” purchase price will be much less than $9.6 billion, allowing the broadcaster to plow hundreds of millions more back into the business.
